All van users must watch the orientation video and fill out the form before using the van. As the van is such a specialized vehicle, it’s important to learn about its accessible features before taking a trip.

Remember, you can rewatch the video, read our manual, or call for assistance at any time.

If you are already a member you will be familiar with the carsharing portion of the service, but if this part is new to you we strongly encourage you to read our How It Works page. It is important to become familiar with accessing shared vehicles, using the provided fuel cards, and knowing where you can park during your trip.

Common van questions

Capacity:
There are 5 seats, and if staying in their wheelchair one person can be safely strapped in. So, if the wheelchair user is transferring out of their wheelchair, a total of 5 people can use the van. If the wheelchair user stays in their chair, 6 people can use the van.

Location:
The van is located at the Halifax Central Library in an extra wide spot so the side ramp can fully deploy. It is a roundtrip vehicle that must always return to the library at the end of your reservation. The lot is locked 1am to 6am.

Does the van have hand controls?
Yes! The van can be used with or without hand controls, making it more versatile.

How do I enter the van?
The van has a 7 degree slope kneeling ramp.

How long can I keep the van?
We ask that trips with the Access-Ability Van are limited to 5 days or less to promote sharing.

We are thrilled to be able to offer this accessible van. There is only one van, so keeping it in good working order without affecting reservations is a top priority. Please take good care of the van during your use. And don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
